Western Approaches remains open and is not connected to the closures at National Museums Liverpool

Western Approaches Museum seeks to reassure visitors that they will remain open during a planned 8 week strike at other Liverpool museums.

Liverpool, UK – February 16, 2024 – Western Approaches Museum, a key historical site dedicated to showcasing Liverpool’s critical role in the Battle of the Atlantic during World War II have reassured the public of its regular operational hours in light of the upcoming industrial action affecting National Museums Liverpool.

From February 17, 2024, several museums under the National Museums Liverpool umbrella are expected to close their doors for an eight-week period due to staff strikes. Western Approaches Museum, however, operates independently from these institutions under the custodianship of Big Heritage and will therefore continue to welcome visitors as usual.

In recent days, the museum has received numerous inquiries from prospective visitors concerned about the potential impact of the city-wide museum closures on our operations.

“During a time when options for cultural and historical engagement in Liverpool may be limited, Western Approaches Museum will continue to welcome visitors looking to explore the rich tapestry of Liverpool’s wartime history. Our dedicated staff are on hand to guide you through the labyrinth of original wartime rooms, including the Map Room, which remained a closely guarded secret until 1980s.”

Western Approaches Museum is located on Rumford Street behind Liverpool Town Hall and is open from 10am to 6pm 7 days a week.
