Summer in the Bunker brings Liverpool’s wartime history to life for families
Western Approaches is excited to introduce Summer in the Bunker, a programme of six weeks’ worth of activities suitable for the whole family and designed to reveal the incredible wartime history of Liverpool to a new generation of visitors. The main event this summer will be a completely new Family Trail, developed for families to enjoy an interactive experience when visiting one of Liverpool’s most unique and fascinating historic sites.
Using a combination of history, stories and hands-on learning, the trail will encourage younger visitors to enter the world of Western Approaches Headquarters during the Second World War and discover how people lived and worked in the bunker at that time.
Families can join the International Time Travelling Agency as they travel through the bunker, where they will meet characters such as J. A. Dempsey and Leading Wren Betty Walsh, who will guide children throughout their adventure.
The trail also includes a period dress-up area featuring authentic-style clothing and accessories, adding another layer of fun by immersing families in the atmosphere of the 1940s.
Summer in the Bunker is perfect for families planning to take advantage of the school holidays. Families will enjoy the exciting combination of entertainment and education available at Western Approaches while spending quality time together in the heart of Liverpool.
Western Approaches is in Exchange Flags, just a short walk from Moorfields and James Street stations and is open throughout the summer holidays.
